eradicate the flu

The foot five is a good way to celebrate with teammates during the winter months, but sometimes it’s just not enough.

Are you tired of touching things at work this cold and flu season because other people may have already touched them? Do you cringe at the thought of interacting with coworkers for fear of contracting a horrible ailment that will leave you incapacitated for days on end? Do you want to eradicate cold and flu season once and for all?

If the answer is yes to any of those questions, the good news is that there’s hope. And it’s a little something I like to call the Flu Eradication Device, or FED.

How To

Anybody can build a FED. It’s really that easy. I fashioned one out of a Ziploc freezer bag and a hair scrunchy I stole out of my daughter’s room. Simply place your hand into the bag and use your other hand to vacuum seal it off with the hair scrunchy. This will provide you with the protection you need to keep your hand in and the germs out.

So long cold and flu season.

Practical Applications

Once you’ve installed the FED on your hands, I think you’ll find that you can do everything that you could already do at work. The only difference is, now you’re not putting germs on your hands. Plus, you’ve done your part to eradicate cold and flu season, for good. Let’s take a look:

Touching ThingsThe first thing you should notice when you put on your FED is that opening doors is a breeze. As is touching elevator buttons, typing on your keyboard and swiping your ID card. The FED makes all of these actions as stress free as humanly possible, and will give you the confidence you need to go about your business without worry.

You will no longer have to live in fear of getting germs on your hands at work, because the germs get on the FED and not your hands. And clean-up couldn’t be easier.

Handshakes: Same thing goes for physical contact with another human being. Now you can shake anybody’s hand without wondering how many times they’ve coughed and sneezed before you met with them that day. For best results, make sure you’re both wearing an FED, and double eradicate the cold and flu from your workspace this season.

Highfiving: Probably my favorite practical application for the FED, and the impetus for this post, is high-fiving. You shouldn’t have to be afraid that you’re going to get sick just because you high-fived a coworker after passing an important business milestone or deciding on where you want to go to lunch that day. I simply refuse to live in a world where I can only high-five, safely, from the months of May to September. How bout you?

No matter how many dirty looks you throw at your colleagues who come into work sick, they just seem to keep on doing it, don’t they? So how do you get the team engaged and throwing high fives during cold and flu season this winter?

Easy… the “Foot Five.”

Three ”Foot Five” Innovations

We’ve spent the better part of the morning concocting three ways to show your co-workers that you appreciate them without spreading germs that lead to illness. Here they are in order of difficulty to perform:

The Mule Kick: Inspired by the P90x Tae-Kwon-Do workout DVD, the Mule Kick is probably the easiest way for two colleagues to throw a foot five with one another. Simply give an individual a knowing glance as you walk by them, turn around, and kick your foot out backward.

TIP: For best results, each person must use the foot closest to the other party during the walk by.

The Kid’n Play Kick Step: That’s right, I used to rock 2 Hype on cassette back in the day… There’s no shame in that.  House Party 1, 2, 3 and 4 were amazing movies, by the way. Now you can relive the magic of the 80s at work, with the Kid’n Play Kick Step Foot Five.

Tip: Check out this video, at minute 1:20, for a complete demonstration.

The Crane: Sweep the leg, Johnny, with this awesome foot five innovation. The Crane is probably the most difficult “Foot Five” to coordinate and maintain for the purposes of taking a photo, but it is definitely one of the most fun “Foot Five” innovations that our team came up with … Bonus points if you look each other in the eye with willful determination just prior to performing this kick.

Now that you know how to conquer cold and flu season at work, once and for all, take a picture of yourself performing a “Foot Five” and share the link with us in the comments below.

Special shout out thanks to LT and Shane for being awesome…
